A couple of years ago I signed up with Efax because of the need to do some contract work with an ex-employer, mostly incoming. I hadn't used the service for a long time and knew it was up for renewal soon. On October 12th I was charged $139.95 for the next year. I wanted to cancel the service for awhile but just never got around to it. The deduction from my checking account was the incentive I needed. I spoke with someone in their call center who cancelled the service and told me that a refund would be processed. I got a confirmation email stating that the refund could take up to 30 days. Today I checked (over 30 days later) and I still didn't have a refund. So I called their customer service again and asked what was going on. They apologized there must have been some error with the process and they will put through the request again. My problem with this is that they are saying it could take another 30 days for me to get my money back.

What is the law in this? Efax is headquartered in California yet there call center is in India.

Ther "law" regarding your refund is most likely the contract that you have with Efax. If you are on a yearly plan, and you didn't cancel until AFTER the year's dues had been taken out, I would be suprised if they offered you a refund at all -- but that would be determined by the contract.
