What is the name of your state? California. My girlfriend has a 7 year old son and has never received any child support because the father cannot be located. She dated the guy for a year, but he took off when she became pregnant and she hasn't heard from him since. He has never seen his son, didn't sign the BC and there's been no paternity established because she doesn't know how to find him. She knows his full name, his employer as of 7 years ago, and the city where his parents reside - although his mother remarried and has a different last name and she doesn't know what this name is. Oh yea, he's a semi-pro hockey player, but she doesn't know what team he plays with now and an internet search turned up nothing.
Any ideas on how she can find the guy with such limited information?

For free- contact your child support services department in your county. They may be able to help but utilizing their computerized system for locating absent parents.

For $$- you can find out anything about anyone thanks to todays tech. and the internet. Research and find a legit. people find agency. There are also agencies that will search dead-beats down for a share of the child support they collect from you.

Open a case now, regardless of the missing info. This will insure that once dad is found, he will owe for the time he was awol.

To Kingsol:

Thanks for the reply. I know you can pay companies to find someone for a fee, but was trying to help for free. What can the state CS office do different than what my friend has already tried - to no avail? She doesnt' know his SS#. Possibly the only thing I can think they could do without this is check the driver's license bureau. However, the last she heard, he moved to Hawaii. He has a very common name and plays semi-pro hockey - any ideas on that? Thanks!

She has to establish a case in the first place, and don't you think the state of California might have some ways to trace people, in there computers somewhere?
What she will have to do is go to the superior court and file a paternity case, someone in the family law faciliators office can help. However since she didn't pursue paternity before, any child support owed will begin after the action is filed not 7 years worth.
If she is creative, most likely she can spend some time on the computer and find where he is, even with a common name.
