I was told that if I stay in hiding until my probation time is up, nothing will happen. Wouldn't this be defeating the whole purpose of probation? I can't believe this is true, but is it? The state is Ga.

Not from GA, but that does not sound like the law operates in any state to me -- and not reporting is itself a violation. Alhough perhaps as a practical matter the system is so bogged down that is how it tends to operate.
