I was recently working as a graphics professional, in Denver CO, until I quit to persue individual conquests.(I parted also because of threatening phone msg's on my machine) Needless to say, my former employer will not give me my last check, unless I sign some sort of paper he's having drafted by a lawyer with something about there being no slander. Is this legal? I have the msg's recorded as well in case they are needed. What can I do?

What your former employer is doing is absolutely illegal. You were supposed to be paid your final wages promptly (I don't know what Colorado's laws are so I have to be somewhat inexact) upon your leaving the company. You have already earned those and are entitled to those. You exchanged your services at the company for those wages. If the company's attorney wants you to sign a release about defamation or some other matter, then they have pay you for that exchange. I would immediately contact a labor law attorney near you for futher advice. You can find one at attorneypages.com.
