I was at a dealership yesterday to trade in my car. While with the salesman, he asked for my keys for his manager to "take a look at" my current car to assess its trade-in value. Without permission, the dealer took it for a drive. The car never made it back to the dealership. The axle broke and maybe even the transmission was damaged a mere block from the dealership. I suspect that the dealer abused the car while on his joy-ride. The damage is currently being evaluated by a repair shop at another dealer.

How should I proceed? Is the dealer at all liable for the damage? I live in Washington state.

Thanks in advance,

--Rich
