What is the name of your state? Ohio.

I got a letter in the mail today from a town in Ohio I've never been to, stating that I got a parking ticket in October of last year.

There's just one problem: I sold that car in February of last year. The guy I sold it to, presumably, is driving the car around with my old plates on it.

Is there any way I can fight this? the car is titled to him and I can prove it.

You do know you are supposed to bring back your plates to the DMV once you uninsured your car?

You brought this upon yourself.

But isn't he SOMEHOW at fault for driving around his car with my plates on it? I honestly did not think anyone was stupid enough to drive the car with someone else's old plates on it. For instance, if he'd gotten pulled over driving the car, HE would have been cited for driving the car with the wrong plates on it, right? I couldn't have driven the car with those plates on it, and they (were) registered to me. And they were EXPIRED. isn't the fact that I chose not to re-register the plates an indication I was surrendering ownership?

I realize I "brought this on myself". That part has been established. I'm trying to undo the damage and I'm looking for help. Believe me, my dad has scolded me enough on this.
