What is the name of your state? WI
My Grandmother passed away on Dec. 4. My Dad and uncle being her only children. She had their names put on her house title and all bank accounts, but didn't think to do the same with her car title. That makes her car the only item that doesn't automatically transfer to her 2 sons after she died. The car is a 1986 Caprice Classic. Hardly valuable! Maybe $500.
So how would her name be taken off the title? Does it have to go to probate for that? Would the courts want to deal with just this one item?

Some states have summary proceedings in probate for small amounts of property. Also, it is possible in some states for the licensing authority to transfer a vehicle to a title without court intervention.

Contact your state bar; they may have booklets that will help you.
