I have an old car that i own and I had plan to sell it to my father because he wanted to give it to his friend. Well the car had been broke down at my grandmothers house. So he told me he took it to someone to have it looked at. It turns out that he took it to a mechanic's shop and they had fixed everything wrong with the car without my permission and my dad doesn't have the money to pay the bill which is $1600. I found this out from my grandmother. I had called and asked about my car and the mechanic told me that I must pay the $1600 up front. Are they allowed to fix my car if I didn't sign any form or paperwork and my dad not being on the title?

Somebody will have to pay it.

I've never had a repair shop ask for proof of ownership before accepting a signature on a repair order, have you? What did you expect, "Please show me the title and a photo ID"?
