car mechanic owns money : verbal contract

What is the name of your state? Maryland
A car mechanic (mobile mechanic) claimed he would fix my car, and took money. He never returned the money nor fix my car. I have his address, phone number, and some phone texts that were exchanged on the total amount. How do I convince the judge in the small claims court in Maryland?

Have you visited a calendar lately? Or a thermometer?
He might be waiting for the elms to come into foliage.

Text him and ask for his Maryland business license number. If he wants to know why tell him you need to list all your business expenditures on your tax return.
My guess is that he has no license and is in morbid fear of the IRS catching him for not paying taxes.
May even give you a refund without going to court.
