Car over heats and set on fire.

Yesterday my Ford Taurus overheated and catches on fire. The Fire Dept. & Police Dept. we're called out of course, as well as a tow . The tow company that came out and took our car (which was determined totaled btw) took it to their shop. I do have FULL COVERAGE auto insurance. I have paid the same amount, to the same company for the last 3 years.
When the insurance adjuster calls he says that I need to sign a release form so that they can take my car to their storage facility. I told him that I had to think about that. So I told him I'd have to call him back. He said email would be better if I could and I said no problem.
I then called the tow company and explained everything and they said not to release it because then I'll have no leverage in the claim and the insurance could reneg on the amount of the check.
I then emailed the insurance adjuster back and told him that I didn't feel comfortable doing that until I was compensated in the amount that the car was worth when it overheated & caught on fire. (Considering I just had the vehicle inspected 6 days ago and it passed, I don't think it would be hard to figure out. I did send him a picture of the copy of inspection report.)
After that, he emailed me back and said that after today, that I will be responsible for the storage fees that this body shop/tow shop company charges from here on out. I don't really understand how he can do that. But that's not the end of it... He then calls me and then calls the tow company via third party and all 3 of us try to come to a conclusion but they argue back and forward. The tow wants $2,000 for all their services!! This only just happened yesterday!! Why so much? The bill that they sent the insurance adjuster had an extra $250.00 tagged on because they said the accident happened after 9pm and it didn't. It happened at 4:30 pm. (The fire dept. has the report that has the correct time but it's $25 to get).
The tow company also had $485.00 for absorbents that were used on the road. But the Fire Dept. was there too cleaning this up. How can the tow company charge this?? Also, can insurance adjuster do that? Any advice out there? : /

Nothing to think about. That's how it works. That's how it ALWAYS works.

I then called the tow company and explained everything and they said not to release it because then I'll have no leverage in the claim and the insurance could reneg on the amount of the check.
Bull - - - -! The towing company is scamming you and you fell for it. It's YOU that will get the bill, not your insurance company and it's YOU that will have to pay it or get sued or sent to collections and have your credit trashed.

I then called the insurance adjuster and told hin that I will be responsible for the storage fees that this body shop/tow shop company charges. I don't really understand how they can do that.
Because the insurance company storage facility charges a fraction of what the towing company will charge you, that's how. And you are prejudicing their ability to properly handle your claim.

Besides, read your policy. The section at the end, something like duties in the event of a claim, where you have to cooperate with the insurance company or you don't get any money.

You're being very foolish. Sign the release ASAP and do what your adjuster tells you to do.

Or maybe he's indicating that he's a "hot to trot" pa (aka father)

The OP should not have ignored the question (about his state) he was explicitly asked when posting.
The state name question does not appear on some mobile devices when posting.

Shouldn't matter what state. The cooperation clause exists in every policy in every state and likely to some extent in every civilized country on the planet that has any kind of an insurance system.

He needs to release the car to his insurance company ASAP.

Yes I do live in PA. And Im not the one stopping this situation from moving forward. It doesn't matter if I sign the release or not. Because the insurance adjuster says that he needs a W-9 to be filled out before he can send any check out and the tow/body shop company won't fill one out on $2200.00 balance & the tow company isn't releasing that car without payment.
And DwayneDibley.... I came to this website to get ADVICE on a situation that I'm not fully educated on. To call me foolish is pretty ignorant on your part.

We are thinking his state is PA because of his screen name and he hasn't been back to answer the state question.

But really, what do expect from an OP that takes legal advice from a tow company?
I do realize & understand that the tow truck/bodyshop company IS just out for them selves.
When the tow truck driver asked where I wanted it towed to, I gave him the address and he said he didn't know where that was. When my husband asked him if he had GPS he went to his truck and then came back and said his GPS couldn't pull it up. He gave me a whole speel on how since I had full coverage... that taking it to their shop won't cost storage and that they might be able to give us a rental for a one time fee of $30. Of course the TWO rentals that they have are both loaned out until no specific time frame.

Unfortunately the tow truck company are the only people that ARE giving me ANY advice. Even though I AM willing to sign the release form. The tow truck company won't release it without the check from the insurance company for their bill . But like I said, the prices on the bill are inflated and some info. is incorrect in order to gain more $.
I was only hoping that maybe someone else had been through something similar & could share some insight.
The criticisms really aren't necessary.

And you couldn't pull it up on your phone(s)?

My phone was at home on charger and my husband's had no service. And before anybody asks...let me just clarify now that him and I both have the same phone so it wouldn't have made a difference if I would have had my phone too.
