Hi, I am a resident of california. Bought a car from a dealer last month. He gave me a temporary registration slip and said that i should be receiving the registration and tags within two weeks. I am currently driving the car around with expired tags. Its been over a month and i still did not receive any kind of pink slip or registration. I got in touch with the dealer and he says that he bought the car in auction, and he is still waiting for the pink slip from the auction to transfer it to my name. I just hope its not a stolen vehicle. Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you.

2 weeks is still a short amount of time. Did he give you the temporary (the little card to place in the rear window with a number on it?) If not, then something is wrong. All dealers have access to this. Do you have your bill of sale? Call DMV and ask them what the status is on your registration/tags. You can get the number by going to www.dmv.ca.gov
This is a legit dealership, right? I mean, it's not one of those where they're selling cars on their front lawn? But they have a limited amount of time to turn in the sale to DMV. I had a similar problem. I waited 6 weeks before finally calling DMV. They said they never received the paperwork from the dealership. I finally went down to the dealership and told them I was filing a complaint with DMV if they didn't get it taken care of immediately. They went that day because they know they have to be very careful with DMV or they can get fined or lose their license to sell vehicles. But I would just call the DMV and ask the status. They will know if it's in their system or being processed.
