I recently installed about $4000 worth of stereo equipment into an '88 camaro, only to have it stolen on the night I had finished installing everything. I live in California and have comprehensive coverage with AAA for the car, but they refuse to pay for the cost of the equipment, even though I have given them receipts for every single thing. I had no time to call the insurance company to insure the stereo equipment because I had just finished that night.

I've heard there is a grace period of 30 days that the insurance company gives for insuring stereo equipment. Is that true, and am I entitled coverage of the equipment if that's the case?

Is there any possibility I can get any money for the equipment?

I can't find much information about this, and I'm wary of trusting the insurance company's word on the matter.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks! :)

WELL LIKE DUH........

YOU HAVE AN INSURANCE POLICY.....

YOU MIGHT AS WELL LEARN HOW TO READ IT.

THEN TELL US WHAT YOU FOUND OUT.

-----------UHHHHHH

was the car broken into? windows broken/ dash ripped out? or was it one of your drinkin or druggin buddies?

UHHHHH>>>>>>>>>>

Did you file a police report? did you ask for them to check for fingerprints?

Where was the car in a garage? who has the keys? was there a forceful entry?

Was it in a high crime area? lots of minorites?

-----------UHHH

Reciepts dont mean squat......you need to show the credit card stubs, or the cancelled checks you wrote.......

DONT TELL US YOU PAID CASH FOR IT ALL.....

Read the comprehensive coverage section of your policy, paying close attention to the exclusions.

You are probably screwed. I have never heard of a grace period for installing stereo equipment.

Insurance usually covers factory installed equipment only, unless you specifically endorse that fancy stereo equipment and pay extra premiums for it.

If your equipment was permanently installed into the opening in your dash that the manufacturer designed to hold the stereo system, you may be in luck. Maybe.

Read your policy.
