I JUST HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT A LEASE I HAVE HAD FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS. THE ORIGINAL LEASE WAS FOR 3 YEARS AND I EXTENDED THE LEASE FOR 2 MORE YEARS. NEAR THE END OF THE 5 YEAR LEASE, I CALLED THE LEASING CO. AND INFORMED THEM THAT I WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE THE CAR. THEY SENT ME INFORMATION ON PURCHASING THE CAR AND I LOOKED IT OVER AND SENT IT BACK. AFTER A FEW MONTHS I CALLED AGAIN AND REQUESTED A PAYMENT BOOK, AND THE TELE REP. SAID THAT THEY (THE LEASING COMPANY)HAD ALREADY SENT OFF THE TITLE TO ME (THE TITLE!!!!). I TOLD HER NOT TO SEND THE TITLE BECAUSE I HAD TO PAY FOR THE CAR, AND SHE SAID I KNOW BUT WE DID SEND YOU THE TITLE. IN A FEW DAYS, IN THE MAIL (FED-EX) THERE WAS THE TITLE WITH SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE DMV AND GET IT PUT INTO MY NAME. SO I DID. OH, DID I MENTION THE TITLE SAID - TYPED IN THE FIELD OF "LEINHOLDER" NONE, YES NONE. IT SAID NO LEINS. SO WHAT DO I DO? NOW THE LEASING COMPANY IS CALLING ME FOR A PAYMENT & I HAVE ASKED FOR MY LAST 5 YEARS RECORDS (WHICH THEY WILL NOT SEND TO ME, I DONT KNOW WHY). DO I TELL THEM THAT I NOW HAVE THE TITLE TO MY CAR WHICH THEY BELEIVE TO BE THEIRS? OR DO I JUST DISCONTINUE TO SEND PAYMENTS? THE TITLE HAD TO GO THROUGH NUMEROUS HANDS AT THE LEASING COMPANY AND BE READ AND SIGNED WITHOUT A LEIN TO BE SENT TO ME. ALL THE INFORMATION I CAN FIND SAYS THAT THEY(THE LEASING COMPANY), WILL NOT SEND OUT THE CAR TITLE UNTIL 14 DAYS AFTER, THATS AFTER THE PAYMENT ( OR PAYOFF) IS RECEIVED IN FULL. PLEASE HELP ME SLEEP AT NIGHT, AND RESOLVE THIS DILEMA.

Car lease

You may own the car under state law if there is no lien on the title; however, if you have not made the required payments, you are liable in contract to them. Their error has not cost you anything, so it does not invalidate their claim.
