I am in Georgia.

My car was broken into, and all the stereo equipment including tv monitors, DVD/CD player, amp, etc. was stolen from it at the parking lot of a Dave & Busters establishment. :(

I called my auto insurance and they will not cover it and referred me to homeowner's. I called homeowner's, and they have denied it saying that it was not "personal property" since it was attached to the vehicle.

I have full comprehensive auto, and full coverage on homeowner's. An acquantaince had his stereo equipment reimbursed by his homeowner's, and I'm wondering why this wasn't covered for me.

I've read my policy from front to back, and it has no mention of this particular clause. Do I need to push further?

I am so impressed

by your pithy wit.

Any advice from someone, aside from STUPID, would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Ok, was the equipment installed in your vehicle before you purchased it? If it was, you should definately push for coverage in your comprehensive section. If it wasn't then you might be out of luck. So you know, if you ever put high valued equipment in your vehicle after you purchase it, then you should call your insurance agent and tell him. That way you know there is coverage. It may cost you nothing, but then again they may charge you a small fee. But it is definately worth it. The only time that I know that your homeowners will cover it is when you are on a trip and you lose personal property. But it would be portable personal property like clothes, jewlery, stuff that you would normally take out of the house. But I'm a agent in Michigan and your laws may be different. Call the Office of Insurance and Financial Services or the BBB. They should be able to help you if you cant get it resolved. Good Luck!

Thank you for your reply.

Actually, the equipment was aftermarket. I guess this was just a hard lesson to swallow. I'll definitely be sure to insure next time.

Is there an office of insurance and financial services in every state?

There should be, just go to a seach engine and type in Office of Financial and Insurance Services of (then list your state), you should be able to find it then. If not then go to your state website and search from there.
