I have recently purchased a car on a cash downpayment. I signed the contract so did the dealer and left off hapily in my new car. days later i recieved a call saying that I have not given the dealer the cash. They are just flat out lying. They threatened to ruin my credit, but my credit is great and I have always been making my payment. the finance manager told me the contract is the receipt of my cash payment. Can they do this to me. Pls advise if I should take legal help?

If the contract is the receipt do you have a copy of it? Do you have any proof you paid the downpayment?

I have the contract

I have the the pink copy of the contract( dealers copy). I have the credit application copy of the contract that clearly indicates the cash downpayment signed by the dealer representative. I have all the documents we usually get when we buy a car. I have also always made cash downpayments as i tend to collect the money for the downpayments a few months ahead of thinking of buying a car. these people are giving me a headache. do you think legal advice from a lawyer would help.

What concerns me is your wording. You keep stating that your copies indicates a cash down payment. Does it show it paid or just that there will be one?

I have the contract that says the price i agreed to buy the car at - the trade in value of my new car + taxes - the cash downpayment + the payoff on my traded in car = amount being financed.
it says cash downpayment on two seperate places and the finance manager had told me when she signs this it will be my receipt.

Ok, she said when she signs it, it will be your receipt. Is it signed? They gave you no other receipt? Have they given you other types of receipts in the past?

yes she signed it. I have a signed copy of the credit application and a signed copy of the contract. it is my proof right?
