I booked a wedding and signed a contract. There was no cancellation clause in the contract. I cancelled 5 1/2 months before the date. The owner said NY law states there must be 6 months for cancellation and he could charge me for the whole affair. One of his managers said for me to come down and get half of my deposit back. Is the owner correct or am I entitled to a partial refund.

My response:

Did you notify them of the cancellation by some sort of writing, and did you keep a copy?

I would sue them in Small Claims court anyway, just out general principle. I've never heard of such a thing. Hell, with 6 months lead time, they haven't purchased a damn thing on your behalf. Just sue them, and get the whole amount back.
