WOW, always thought a pardon wiped the slate clean for the crime/s pardoned for.
There remains records of pardons and expungements and sealings of convictions. These records might no longer be accessible to the public, but they don't disappear.

In addition, there could be news stories and, of course, memories of the crimes survive.

There are benefits to sealing and expungements and pardons (in all states) but these are not always the benefits people expect or want.
