I am resident of California. My wife and I will be adopting a new born in the state of Missouri in August. We are aware of our right to provide our own certificate of birth, rather then accepting that which is issued by the state. Our question is; what must a non-state issued certificate of birth consist of to make it a legally acceptable document, and what is involved in having one created.

Any information that could be provided will be greatly appreciated.

Why not do both? When you adopt the birth certificate given by the state will be ammended to have you and your wife's name on it as the parents. Is there a problem with that? Maybe I don't get your question.
