What is the name of your state? Texas

What is the heck is a "certified copy" of a will, and how does one get that done?

Thanks,
nanademi

Please explain the reason that you are asking.

All you need to do is go to the county courthouse probate court where the will is filed and get the certified copy, which is a photocopy of the original will, with an ink "seal" stamped on to the document by the courthouse employee to certify that it is an exact copy of the original will.

Perhaps you are being asked to provide this by a financial institution or other company who wants to pay you estate monies you are due as executrix?

Don - The question is actually a co-worker's. It seems that the vehicle in his mom-in-law's estate needs to be transferred, but she never signed the title. The insurance on the vehicle runs out tomorrow (which you need in Texas to be able to register a vehicle), and the tag office has stated that they would need a certified copy of the will showing where the executor has the authority to sign the title in place of the decedent. The insurance co. said something about a certified copy as well to facilitate adding said vehicle to inheritor's policy.
Thanks for you imput!

It might also be a good idea to contact the executor to inform him/her about this so they could handle it--the executor might already have a certified copy of their "LETTERS TESTAMENTARY" (the legal document given to executor by the court, giving executor authority to handle any and all estate matters) and it might also help with the tag office to be presented with the Letters Testamentary as well as the copy of the will.
