I live in Rhode Island and recieved a certified letter for a bill. Within this letter it gives me 7 days from the letter to rectify the bill. I fully intend to pay the entire amount due but wont have the said amount till my next pay date which is more then 7 days away. My question is the letter was written on the 11th, sent out certified mail postmarked the 13th and was signed recieved (not by me) on the 15th. When does the 7 days begin? When the letter was written, which was the 11th or when I recieved the letter, which was the 15th? Also Do weekend days count within that 7 days as well? Thanks in advance.

As far as your creditor is concerned it's 7 days (including weekends) from the day he wrote the letter and nothing else matters. If he doesn't get his money on the 18th he is free to send it to a collection agency or file suit.

I suggest you call your creditor on Monday, tell him when payday is and that you'll bring in the money then.

And hope that satisfies him.

And when you speak to them, get some sort of indentifying information (not likely to provide their real name). Note the date and time and as accurately as you can, what was said.
