What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

My husband and I got married in India in 2010. When we moved to CA, we wanted to get a marriage certificate. But when we applied for it, the date on the certificate shows 2014 and not 2010. Can we get this date changed to 2010?

You cannot get it changed. Your Indian marriage is valid in the US. If you want to get remarried here, then your marriage certificate will reflect the new date.

There are a couple of potential problems with using your California license to remarry your current spouse.

1)
To marry in California, the two parties may not be already married to each other or other individuals.
2)
Marriage licenses are valid for 90 days from the date of issuance. If you do not get married within 90 days, the license will no longer be valid. You must purchase a new license.

Some additional information:

A couple comes into the Recorder’s Office and presents their marriage certificate issued in a foreign country. They want the Recorder’s Office to record their foreign marriage certificate in California. Can their marriage be recorded in California?

No. A foreign marriage certificate cannot be recorded in California. If the couple needs to establish a record of the marriage in California, they can file a petition in Superior Court to establish a Court Order Delayed Certificate of marriage.
