What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Wisconsin

Hello, my father passed away last month from cancer, and we found a life insurance policy but the policy only covers certain types of cancer. His death certificate states he died from cancer ( colon / prostrate cancer ). The insurance policy does not cover those types of cancer.

BUT, he did not die from colon/prostrate cancer, he died from Lung / Bone Cancer. He would be covered by the policy if the death certificate stated death from Lung cancer.

The person who signed the death certificate was using his past medical records as his basis for the death cert. My father did have colon / prostrate cancer 4-5 yrs ago... but he beat those cancers. This doctor who signed the cert never met my father nor treated him and never consulted with my fathers personal physician. My father came home to die (hospice) instead of in a hospital, so his personal doctor was not available when he died.

The death certificate is wrong in the fact of what killed my father.
How can I change it to reflect the true cause of death?

I would start with his primary care doctor & see what he says. Maybe a call to the Vital Statistics department in your area.

Given that and even if it is possile I would expect the ins. co. to give you a hard time about it.

My advice here is not worth much. Hopefully other with more specific knowledge can guide you better than I.

Good luck.
