Recently our daycare provider gave us a new contract which asked for a "non-refundable deposit of four weeks payment which would not be applied to X's care for September" (I am a teacher, and do not use daycare during the summer while I am home). This deposit would be used to "hold our place" for the following school year. We have had our child in the daycare home for the past two years, and this has not been an issue in previous contracts. I am wondering if she can 1)legally ask for a deposit that large, and 2)if she can legally not apply it to the daycare services or refund it. This seems like a large amount of money to just give over to her just to hold a spot. We live in Connecticut.
