I'm in Arizona. My divorce was final on 4/12/01. I was awarded our house as my 'sole and seperate property' in the decree. I must refinace by 4/12/02 to remove her name from the mortgage. My mortgage company has agreed to this, but they need a Quit Claim to process it.

We agreed on a divorce setlement, including my keeping the house, and all of the larger debts, and that she would have no interest in the house, or my pension or stocks. She now says that she will not sign the Quit Claim unless I pay her $10,000.

Is there anything I can do to get her to sign without paying this extortion?

My response:

Not now there isn't. It's her last "Hurrah !" and she's got you. This should have been signed at the time the MSA was signed. Now, she's at arm's length, and can demand money for her signature.

You obviously didn't have attorney's involved in this matter, in an attempt to "save money". Now, instead of costing you on the front end, it's going to cost you on the back end.

Good luck.
