Florida, I was contacted by a dedt collector. We owed $2,000+ I explained that we had tried to pay what we owed originally but wer locked out. She said she would lower the amount owed to just over $1,000. She then said they could do 6 months of $170 and I told her I couldn't afford that could she do $40 a month and she agreed. We set it up and they have taken 3 payments. I received a letter that says our total amount due is $2,000+ again. I called and spoke to a manager. He said the lower amount owed was only if I paid the $170 for 6 months. I told him about our conversation and we even listened to the recording together. She never stated that it would go back to the $2,000+ if I didn't do the $170. He says its my misunderstanding. He said he will offer it to the company but doesn't think they'll accept. It is clear. she dropped the amount due. Then Offered an amount. I counter offered. She accepted. Never stated or insinuated that the dedt returned to original amount. Is there anything I can due? Thank you.
