What is the name of your state? florida
My daughter has a deadbeat father, I want her last name changed to mine it's hyphenated with both his and mine. How do I go about this does he have to be notified and about how long does it take??

First question- how old is this child?
Second- are you just changing the child's last name despite the father?
Thirdly- Is your child familiar with her last name? Have you talked to your child about a name change?- Or maybe just after enrolled in school, dropping the end of the name?

As far as I know, you can change your child's name to Barney Rubble if you would like. No one has to be notified. You are the legal gaurdian, there for, you are allowed to make any legal changes to the child's name.
Good Luck and God Bless!

wait a sec...

although you state bio dad is a deadbeat, are there any custody orders in place right now? Meaning, does he share legal custody? If so, then no, you cant just change her name....
Id consult a lawyer about this just to make sure....

ugh!!!! You new posters need to learn to PUT IN ALL THE FACTS IN YOUR FIRST POST! If he has no parental rights, then you can change your daughters name to Engelbert for all the courts care and you don't need his consent.

BTW, he is no longer your daughters deadbeat father, he is no longer her father!
