What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ohio

I was on ebay and bought 3 items. On the listing, it says that combined shipping is about 9 bucks for the first item, but all other items ordered together, there would be no additional charge. It says that on all 3 listings. I bought the items, and now he claims that his listings were in error and that he wants 5 bucks for each additional item. Can he change shipping arbitrarily?

I'm not going to fight him on the issue since he's offering me a huge discount on the items that's cheaper than anywhere else, but I was just interested to the legality of this since I also sell on ebay and sometimes fuel surcharges will increase with very little notice.

My philosophy is to eat the small additional cost rather than make for an unhappy customer, but if fuel does skyrocket overnight it would be good to know that I could change shipping charges.

I don't know what the "laws" might be regarding your problem, but I can tell you that E-bay policy prohibits your seller from doing what he is trying to do. It doesn't matter if he made a mistake in his listing. If the seller refuses to abide by the original terms, you can file a dispute/complaint with E-bay. Note, E-bay cannot force the seller to actually go through with the sale, but they can and will void the transaction.
