What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Kansas
What is the best way to give life insurance benefits to someone not named as the beneficiary? Our son named his Dad as the sole beneficiary on military life insurance. Later he married and had children and the beneficiary wasn't changed. We want the benefits to go to his wife without losing any to taxes.

Life insurance benefits are not generally taxable. If the beneficiary wishes he can give the funds to whomever he chooses.

Agree that the proceeds will be paid to the bene named in the policy (Dad). He can do with the proceeds as he wishes.

I, too, am sorry for the loss of your son.
