I am an US citizen and live in Michigan. I have submitted a petition for my sister (I-130). My sister is married and over 21 years old. The petition was approved by the INS and her priority date is 11/??/1997. I understand that this way it will take her another 7/8 years to get an immigrant visa.

Recently, our mother became US citizen. Now, if my mother re-applies for my sister, how long it will take for my sister to get an immigrant visa? Can my sister change the visa priority type keeping the original priority date (11/??/1997)? What forms should we use?

In my case, the pririty date is May, 1996. My mother just passed the naturalization test. What should I do now. I believe that I can mail INS and report the my mother change in status and that would make my initial petition date as the date for the new petition (i.e. UnMarried son of citizen)

Please advice.

Also, would it be wiser to get legal help from professionals at this stage or does it not matter ?
