I live in Florida. I filed Bankruptcy in 1997. At that time I was unmarried. Now I am married and my husband needs to file for debts accrued by him and I but, that are only in his name. Can he file by himself? Will they try and make me pay for the credit card debt since I am an authorized user? Also we have made a few hardship purchases in tha last few WEEKS. (New roof on home, new motor in husbands work vehicle.) These are things that we had to have. How long is it before they will leave us alone and not think to "GET US" since we bought those things. Also is it a "usual process" that the will try and make you pay? We are going to talk to an attorney this Saturday. And will probably be filing in the next couple months. Have you heard anything of the law changing? And is it true that even when the law changes that it will take anywhere from 6 months to a year to implement? I wan to make sure that this is as legit as possible. Also even if the law is passed, if I have already paid for the bankruptcy that it will still go through because it got in "under the wire"? From what I remember in filing that the date the actual bankruptcy is discharged is the date they will consider the purchase time from. (Ex. Bought Roof on Nov.30 File bankruptcy on Jan. 30 Bankruptcy discharge on March 30. That would be an actual total of 4 months since inception.) Is that correct?
