What is the name of your state?Oregon. My husband and I are going to file chapter 7, I have 52 shares worth $2,500. Do I get to keep these shares or do I have to sell them before we file bankruptcy? Thank-you for your reply.

The OR exemeptions are here: http://www.bankruptcyaction.com/orexemptions.htm

It doesn't look like you'll have any way to exempt the stocks. They are an asset and you will likely lose them to the Trustee. If you cash them out, then spend the money on NECESSITIES only and wait at least 3 months before you file. Before you do ANYTHING with them, you need to talk to a bankrutpcy attorney, most give free intial consultations.
