What is the name of your state? Texas
We moved from New Mexico to Texas in 2001 leaving a house we had lived in for and was buying for 25 years. We rented it out for a while to help make payments but that didn't work out, so we ended up filling chapter 7. Thinking the bank would foreclose on the property. They never did. The house is still in aou name. The state of Texas recently sold it for back taxes. Now they sent us a letter stating after taxes they had money left over and do we want to claim it. I would like to know if we are still liable for debt or did they write it off? And what would happen if we claimed it?
