What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? california
Hi-
I created a character on a video game console. This character can be selected to be a player on some of the games on the system. Am I allowed to take the character I created and use it for my own business? Or is it owned by the video game console maker?
Thank you and look forward reading everyone's insight.

what is your relationship with the console manufacturer? Did you use any software or such of theirs to make the character?

No relationship. I am just a consumer of the game console. The character was made on the console itself, so it's their software.

Did you hack their software to allow you to do this?

excuse my ignorance but I am not familiar with how one would create a character on a game console. How would one do anything on such a console without a game installed?

No I did not hack into the video game/console. Many games and consoles such as the Playstation, Xbox or Nintendo have this feature. I guess it gives the players more of a personal touch.

Honestly this is beyond me. I would suggest reading all accompanying literature quite thoroughly. There may be something in a EULA or any sort of terms of use.

you might want to check back later. There is a regular poster that is pretty good on this type of issue. Haven't seen him around for awhile but he seems to come and go with little rhyme or reason.

divgradcurl is his screen name. you might try PM'ing him as well.

The answer to your question is most likely contained in the license that you agreed to when you started using the software. If you can't access the license though your console, look to the manufacturer's website, and see what they allow or disallow.
