Virginia, I was told that I was being charged with a misdemeanor possession of marijuana but when actually charged it had been bumped up to a felony possession with intent to distribute (which was not my intentions). However the officer told me it would likely be reduced in court back to a misdemeanor. Why would they do this and if it is reduced, will having been charged with this type of crime have any effects on me in the future (background checks etc).
