Florida - I received a letter dated May 10, 2001 from a collection agency attempting to collect on a credit card debt that was charged off by the original credit card company in March of 1993 for non payment. I have a copy of my credit report I received from Trans Union in 1999 where this is stated. The letter I received from this collection agency states that it is their practice to report debts with principal balances over $50.00 to one or more CRA's. The letter also states that this original debt was purchased by another credit card company and that is who the collection agency is representing. I thought that according to the FCRA the time period that this debt could be reported had expired. Can this new company legally report this debt to any CRA's as a new debt?
