I have taken care of my son since he was born in 1985, and now the state wants me to show why I should'nt be held in contempt of court for failure to pay the mother child support. The mother is very is not a hostile witnness for the state and I have proof that I have taken care of her, my son, and her two daughters of which they know not who there father is. They only know me as their father. The mom and I plan to be married this June and the court date is in May. I do have several documents that state my case very well, such as medical bills that I paid for in full totalling $7,000. I purchased a home clear of deed and quit claimed it to my sons mother so she and the kids would have a place to live.I have lots of receipts of bills that I paid for the mom utilities and more. I dont understand how they would charge me of a crime such as this one and the mom never asked for their help in getting me to pay. I knew of no order for me to pay the amount that they are asking me to pay and in arrear. She is willing to appear in court with me and my son also. Do I need an attorney? Do I have a chance at proving my case to the courts? I am in the State of Missouri

Yes you should have a claim and the Judge should listen to you Take all I mean all you documents to Court and show the Court make copies in case the judge wants to keep them then you will have back up and if they get lost somewhere you will have back up. and makeb them show you a Court order with a judgment with out one they can't unless she has been getting help from the state has she and you don't know about it? Good luck with your case . And remember if you don't get the Court to your favore there is always the appleas Court.
