my son and 3 friends went into walmart with their bookbags and jackets and put them into a shoping cart.one of the boys stoled 2 cds put one in his own bookbag and hid the other one under my sons and friends jacket.the other 3 boys[1 was my son]did not know what dave did.my son pushed the cart so he was the only one charged.he is 14 and was hand cuffed and a emotional reck.i told him we are getting a laywer, for 2 reasons [1]he did not do it,and also have charges brought against the boy for intrapment or something.
My son was given a apperance ticket,do you think this a good idea. Can you recomend me in the right thing to do?

My response:

Yours was far enough down the list, that I felt that no one was going to respond to you.
My response, however, is probably what more than a few of us are thinking, but I've got the guts to say it . . .

You REALLY believe your son? C'mon, he's 14, and knew exactly what he and his friends were doing. None of us want to believe that our children are anything but Angels - - that it's always the "other kid." Well, guess what? Remember the shennanagins YOU got into as a kid? This is typical for a kid. But, you are doing your child a great diservice by believing every word he says. His theft is really a cry for attention. So, give him some. A swift kick in the pants. Catch it now before it gets worse. Just look at the other people writing on this site, with their current criminal problems. They were all 14 years old once too, and now look at them. There's a laundry list of crimes allegedly caused by these people on this site. Now's your chance to "head your kid off at the pass" before matters get worse. President Roosevelt said it best: "Spare the rod and spoil the child."

P.S. Of course, if you really want to see if your kid is telling the truth, ask the store if you can see the video tape. In those sections, there's always a video camera pointed right at the aisle.
