Around two months ago, my roomates and I made a serious and foolish mistake to experiment with everyday chemicals to create a high. This was beyond the most idiotic thing I have ever done... and to make matters worse, my roomates boyfriend, ended up going into cardiac arrest because of it. This led to so many problems. We were assured that we would not be in trouble... and we figured the humility from the situation, and from the school's publication was enough... a month or so later... we recieved a phone call, explaining we were being charged with "chemical bad use". My friend and I were, and still are, very scared. We plead guilty, because our police statements from that night proved our guilt. We had court a week or so ago, and decieded not to go any further without the aid of a lawyer. We established a settlement confrence witht he prosecution and now with that day growing closer and closer, we're stuck. We have no legal aid, I'm unemployed currently, and my friend works only a part-time job as to not conflict with her studies. We were told the court could appoint a lawyer for us, could we not afford it. I guess we would really appreciate someone who could inform us of how this works, how the settlement conference works, is it possible to still go back in without a lawyer, and is this even right to be charged with this? Please, any response would be greatly appreciated, and soon please.
