What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ga

What is monetary support? What is Child abandonment? I have signed documents of when the last time I saw my daughter. Signed document of paying for child care. Signed document of making a payment of child support. I am not divorced or have a set amount of child support to pay. It was less than 30 from the last time I saw my daughter and where she spent the weekend with me before my soon to be ex-wife filed for a warrant for Child Abandonment. I do not have a lawyer. She does. Her lawyer has threatened me about jail time if I don't.... One, sign the acknowledgement of divorce papers first. Two, this is set for mediation to begin with. Will I have a court appointed lawyer for this case? Do I stand a chance in front of a judge or do I just need to do whatever I can to make her and her lawyer happy?

Help on these issues is greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks

The court will not appoint you an attorney, as this is a civil matter.

Its your stbx's attorney that is threatening you with jail time. If you had your own attorney I an 99% certain those threats would not be being made.

I absolutely agree.

OP - you're being bullied. Your situation does NOT constitute criminal child abandonment in any way, shape or form.

Criminal or Civil??

Does it change anything knowing that this is taking place in Hall County Georgia?

I have heard mixed answers. And the letter I have received clearly states...

Application For Criminal Arrest Warrant

Child Abandon (M)

Takes place in Magistrate Court. Set for mediation.

I have heard that if we do not come to a conclusion in mediation then I will have to appear before a judge that same day.

I'm just really curous about what kind of chance I stand on not going to jail and not having to roll over for petty scare tactics!!!
