What is the name of your state? Texas

Alright. I have a friend that is currently in a boarding school/residential treatment center. He has been listed as a run away for about two years now and that was the reason his parents sent him to this place. So, what I am wondering is: If anyone was to go and pick him up from the place (like friends) what kind of trouble could they get in?

Thanks,
Tim

If he is a minor, or the courts are involved in his placement there, then anyone helping him leave could get into a great deal of trouble.

I just responded to your other thread, then I read this. The answer to both of your questions is:

No, your friend cannot leave without permission until he is 18.

If anyone were to try to go pick him up, that person caould and most likely would be in some serious legal trouble.

Also, depending on what type of program it is, it's highly unlikely that a minor would be able to simply walk out of a treatment center, which means that anyone trying to assist them in leaving would definately be caught.

Your friend might not like it, but he/she is there for a reason and the best thing you can do to help your friend is to support him/her getting the professional help they need.

Look what I am wondering is if I pick up my friend if I can be charged with kidnapping. Someone mentioned that but I had never heard of that before. He was sent their by his parents; the courts had nothing to do with it nor does he have any legal trouble besides being listed as a run away. So, I want to know if he left their with me if I would be charged with harboring a run away and/or kidnapping and what type of sentencing/consequences that could bring.

Are you also a minor?

If this kid is a minor - and he is. And this kid was sent to a boarding school by his parents/legal guardians - and he was. Then him leaving w/out their permission is running away. If you're not a minor and you take him, then you definitely risk kidnapping charges.

By the way, this is a boarding school for teens in trouble, not a mental hospital.
Then this is NOT a regular boarding school, period. Your friend CANNOT just walk away without being a legal runaway. ANYONE, whether they are a minor or not, who HELPS a run away can be in serious, serious legal trouble, period.

With the answers you've already gotten, I get the feeling that you still want to help your firend run away- DO NOT DO IT!

You've been given very good advice, what you do with it is up to you, but I am through helping you.
