Hello,
We really hope to get some advice, and will try to make story short. We have an 11 yr old who was abused, molested and tortued by his biological father. He has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He has never been a threat to himself or anyone else. He lives in fear and needs to feel safe where ever he is.

He is at least a year behind the level he should be. He has an IEP and arrangements were made for him to be sent to an IEP room whenever he felt over-whelmed. The teacher in that room and the principal said they didn't know how to provide for him, despite all the information we gave them about PTSD. The teacher would be very forceful and intimidating if he wouldn't complete his work, and would tell him that he is disabled. After I asked about holding him back, and was told this school has never held back a child, things got worse. The room he was sent to when he was overwhelmed was not a quiet, relaxing place for him. The teacher became forceful with him to get him to do what she wanted. She hovered over him and yelled - not something to do to a PTSD child. He backed away from her and asked her to stop, as he was taught to do when afraid. He told him to go back to his seat, he said he would if she backed away. Instead she backed him into a corner, threatening him, and when he couldn't go any further he climbed on a book shelf. The teacher grabbed him, and scratched him. He was terrified, wiggled to get loose and scratched her back. She called the police and tried to press charges on him. We filed charges against her, nothing was ever done.
The school then refused to allow him to attend, and tried to make him go to a school in a mental hospital. We had meetings about it and were told they don't teach at this place, they maintain the current level of education. He's already behind. This 'school' looks and feels like a jail, and is for delinquents. My sin is not a delinquent. Our counselor and social workers say this would not be good for him, he does not belong there. He wants to go to school with his friends.

The school threatened to put me in jail for not sending him there. They refused to expel him from the school we want him to go to. I asked for due process, they ignored me. I sent an email asking for due process, so they have it in writing, the only thing they say is that I was told about due process. I was not told about it, just threatened with it all last year. Again, the teachers and the principal said they didn't know about PTSD and couldn't do anything for my son. It was a new principal who seems very lost.

Please help me get my son in school. He's very bright - he actually wants to be a lawyer when he grows up.

Thank you
