Ask your county social services unit where you can start to get paternity established . Im sure they would be more than willing to help you with information now rather than later . This way too It will help them possibly keep her off of welfare rolls .

replied to your message on the general board - here is what it said
When the child is born you will take yourself to the courthouse and file a petition for visitation rights to your child -- barring a record as an axe murderer you should be able to expect to be granted your motion. Be aware that with a newborn your visits will be brief (usually 1 -3 hours one or two days a week) and will increase in length as the child is older. I don't know your exact situation but I will say that all too often one or the other parent in these things will play this game of "I won't let you see him/her" and the ONLY one who is truly hurt is the child so PLEASE take the initiative and get your rights to be a part of this child's life!!!!
The papers are such that you can actually complete and file them yourself so that you can avoid the expense of an attorney or you can find an attorney who would be willing to work with you on a payment plan arrangement........be aware, though, that when you pursue your rights to the child you will also find yourself involved in a support case so be ready to start providing for your child emotionally AND financially.........
There should be more men like you who WANT to be a part of their child's life.......
Good Luck and God Bless

And just to add to that -- do a websearch now for "Father's Rights Advocacy Groups" in your state -- contact them and they can put you in touch with a wide variety of resources that will help you get your rights as this child's father......including legal representation by someone who has specific experience in these cases!!!!

I'am very confused!
You say "I got a girl pregnant", but as I sit here viewing your profile (both AOL and Yahoo) I notice that you state that you are a female. So, I am going to assume that you are posting under your "fiances" SN and introduce myself to you.
My name is Shannon and I too live in Iowa.
My advice to you is, although you may love the idea of fathering a child, you should file a petition to overcome paternity as soon as the child is born. DO NOT sign the birth certificate, DO NOT sign a Affidavit of Paternity and CONTEST to the paternity if and when the mother of the child files for child support. This woman that you had an affair with is only the woman that you had an affair with and she may not care about you or the child that she is carrying, and therefore she may lie to you about the paternity of the child for child support reasons. Please be mature about the situation you are in, because I know from experience that paternity and child support is nothing to assume is your responsibility, know the facts! I am going to post my situation in your thread, I hope that you will read it and understand it. If you have any questions or comments, you may contact me at
[email protected] Thanks, Shannon:)

Well I have decided that I am too tired and sleepy to rewrite our situation in this post, so if you would like to read our situation then search for our post "Wrongfully Collected Child Support" by Shannon&Fuad
