What is the name of your state? California
I have a question regarding child support. My sisters boyfriend has a son by his ex girlfriend that he just found out about a year ago. He contested it at first, but a paternity test was done, and it was confirmed that the baby was his son.
Well I guess the mother of the child had been receiving cash aid from Nevada County, and when the paternity was confirmed, my sister's boyfriends wages were garnished for back child support for the cash aid the mother had received. He doesn't dispute that he owes this, but since then the mother has moved to Sacramento County, and he apparently received notice that she has filed for child support in that county.
With his extremely small salary (he works graveyard at KMart), he's worried that if they're going to garnish his wages in two counties now, that he's not going to have enough to help support his other child (my sister's). I know that he wants to do the right thing by both children, but right now it's a hardship.
First of all - are they going to collect in both counties? Second - what can he do to lessen the payments so that his other child doesn't suffer?
Thanks!
