What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TEXAS

My husband owes approximately $6,300 in child support. If we can get the custodial parent to agree to a 50% settlement how should we proceed to settle the matter. The child support case is handled by the Attorney General office.

This is your husbands legal issue and he should post for himself. And there is nothing "we" can do. :)

You can't do anything. Your husband would need to talk to the mother of his children and ask her to enter into an agreed entry with him. Then the two of them could submit it to the court. But why would the mother agree to let your husband not pay support for his children? And if any money is not owed to the mother, mom can't agree to a settlement of other than what is owed to her. Why wasn't your husband paying his support?

I am posting on his behalf. Thank you for your helpful response! :)
You actually should not post on his behalf. He should post for himself. Cause its HIS LEGAL issue. If he doesn't care anough to deal with it then perhaps he should just pay off the arrears.

By federal law the offices of the states' attorney generals are charged with the responsibility of enforcing child support orders. If you husband wishes to reach a compromise agreement approved by the custodial parent he could initiate the process by communicating with the Office of the Texas Attorney General (OAG) and ask to receive a "request for review form".

Another option is to enter into a written negotiated compromise agreement with the other parent and file it for approval by the appropriate court.

Lastly he might turn himself in to be fitted with an orange jump suit.

Or the Father could take 15 min and ask for himself. ;)
