I would like to know if my ex can just change the amount of child support that is payed every month on his own or if he needs to modify the order? My daughter turned 18 and is not going to attend college at this point. He dropped the amount that he pays on his own and I would just like to know if he can do that? If not, what do you suggest I do?Thank you.

No, he cannot change it on his own. Either you or him needs to file for a modification.

Actually I have another quick question. When my ex and I were going through seperation before the divorce was final he refused to give me anything for my 3 children and our seperation lasted almost a year. Throughout that time the child support recovery unit helped me to get something from him. Well....he is a self-employed carpenter and makes good money and when it came time to look at his tax returns to come up with a monthly cs payment all I ended up with was $143.00 a month for 3 kids. He cheats on his taxes so bad that they told me that there was really nothin they could do at the time. When our divorce finally went through my lawyer told me that I should ask for at least $200 per child and that was pretty much standard. So up until now I received $600 for the 3 kids. This month he sent in $500 and never said anything and never went through modification. I guess what I am wondering is.....if we go through modification and the way that he cheats on his taxes...will I end up with the small amount that I got the last time they went by his tax returns? I can't raise 3 kids on $143.00 a month again and what are some other ways besides taxes that they can find out that he makes alot more than he says he does? I just don't know what to do and he would love nothing more than to get by paying hardly anything. I am not asking for more than we have been getting, I just want to be fair.
Sorry this ended up not being such a quick question!!

You need to read your court order. If there is a specific sum for each child and one child has now emancipated, he can do this. Most orders are not written this way, but it is possible. If it is an amount for all kids, then he cannot do this.
