i live in california. my daughter will graduate in june before she reaches 18. does that mean i won't receive her child support until she is 18? also, is there a way to go back to court and request some child support if she goes to college? it seems hard to believe that in a state as expensive to live as california, that we wouldn't be entitled to some help.

Tuition

Your post says nothing about your portion of tuition that you might provide? But it does say "why WE would not be entitled to some help."
Is the support for you or your daughter. Have you checked with schools she might atttend for grants or scholraships.
What about websites for scholarships try this one www.fastweb.com Or would it be easier for "WE" to get money from her father. I assume support has been paid yet you have no trust for college. maybe monies were not spent on "WE" But you.

You do not say if she has even been accepted at a college, only "if she goes". There are student aid offices that help find scholarships, grants, loans. Also part-time work is posted on college bulletin boards. Her father may want to help subsidize her tuition but I do not believe he is required to. I hope you will be helping. Tuition for California residents is a lot less than for out-of-state students. A Community college may be a good and inexpensive way to begin if a UC or Cal State in not an option.I do not know if you will continue to receive child support until she is 18 or until she graduates from HS.

With or without child support we all have different incomes. Assuming the amount of income and the cost to live every month it was impossible to start a trust for college. ALL the money was spent on my daughter and then some. I many times have gone without. I am checking now on grants and scholarships. Believe me, it WOULD NOT be easier to get any help from her father. He hasn't seen her since she was 4 months old and never contributed anything other than he had to. Yes, "WE" should have been "SHE". If one parent is helping the other parent should be willing to.

Just remember neither parent is responsible for sending their 18 year old child to college. It is up to the child to send themselve. Whether parents are together or not, have seen the child in years or not it is up to the child to make that decision. Their are loans and other ways and means to go to college. Many young adults work while going to college either part or full time. It is up to the child. If you want to help your child go to college it is your option, however that should have been taken into consideration along time ago. $10 a month in a savings account after eighteen years would be $2160. That is at least one year tuition and a California State University. Trust me.

You will continue to receive CS until she is 18. However, baring a previous agreement, CA has no law that supports college payments from the NCP.
