Hi I live in N.Y. My husbands ex took him to court for child support. They are currently taking out $45 a week for support and $10 for arrears. We asked if we could get it modified since we have a child together in our household and after we get done paying our bills we have about $20 a week left over to get what we need for our household (due to immigration problems I am unable to work yet). The woman we went in front of was very biased and basically told the ex that she should be getting more not less but the son gets SSI for being hyper so they would make up the difference in what we can't pay. Now we have to go back to court in July. Does any body have any suggestions on how we can get the support lowered? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. The ex has 2 other children by different men and they are only paying $25 a month so why do we have to pay more? Also can we ask the courts for receipts as to what the child support is spent on. We know the ex has to account to SSI so can we do the same?
