MINNESOTA: Father has sole custody and mother pays child support. Mother has two younger kids (from other relationships) and support order was made after they were born. She is now pregnant with her fourth child. Can she use this child to reduce her monthly child support obligation?
Also, how long can she reasonably stop working (which would stop the child support payments) after having this child before it's considered contempt?

Why do you assume child support (legally) will stop while she's not working?

I know her obligation doesn't stop, but the actual payments do. Every time she has quit her job, or stopped working for several weeks, support has stopped.

If she stops working, she is still liable of making the child support payments on her own. Once she is considerably behind, you can take her to court for contempt. (for not paying court ordered support)

*If* she goes back for an adjustment on child support due to her 4th child, it will not lower her support that much if it is even lowered at all.
