What is the name of your state? Kentucky

I am currently presenting a settlement offer to my ex wife. We both reside in Kentucky. My ex and I have shared, joint custody of our minor child (<3y/o) by agreement. Based on current gross income, ex will pay by agreement $200.00 a month in child support. I have completed the Ky child support work sheet several times however, I'm always coming up with a much larger figure. She grosses around $6500. and I gross $3500 a month in total income. My figures are showing in the range of $600- $700.00 monthly support obligation. My atty, says that this low figure is based on the fact that we have joint 50/50 custody.

Are my assumptions correct? or should I consider it a wash and just sign the deal?

Thank you for any assistance.

I would definitely follow the advice of your attorney....and really- what is there to bicker about- you have the kid half the time and still get money....

thanks

I thank you foremost for your input. However, the fact is I am not bickering and actually feel very bad for some of the individuals on this site. I am doing what I feel is right in the best interests of our son. I am not claiming I want more money, but I certainly am looking to my options. I do have my child 50% of the time and for that I thank God each and everyday. But, if it wasn't for me thinking about what was in our sons best interests, I would have him 80 - 90% of the time. Just because I'm a dad and the tables are reversed where the income disparity favors the father, does not mean that the father is a money grubber, etc. and is bickering just for the sake of bickering. Each person has an enitilement to what is fair**************...I don't think my son is any different.

As for my atty, I have nothing left to do but listen to him. It is what it is assume..

Again, thank you for your input and I do appreciate it.

It's usually smart to take advantage of any agreement on CUSTODY that is workable, and LATER fix up the money end of things. ;) Custody is FAR less flexible than CS. You can change CS amounts like diapers, or individual pudding servings. But custody is much harder to change.

That's why your attorney advised you as s/he did. IMHO.

Thank you also. Believe me I am very happy with the 50/50 shared we agreed to on custody. I am also with the cs, just the amount I was looking at. the sad thing is in our D, the custody was a very minor issue for the ex but cs was the hinging factor for several months. It's funny, custody for her has never been a big issue but her paying cs has been the issue for several months.

thank you, and lord knows I wish I would have found this site 2 yrs ago.

I offer you as many rolling eyes as we are allowed (10!), ALL pointed at HER, for being a common money-grubbing beast:

You're welcome. We ALL wish we'd had this site "before!"
Except CJane. She's happy!
