How it works in Indiana and many other states:
The governmetn checks that the children receive would reduce the amount of child support that you would be paying on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
Say, for example, you owe $200 a month for child support.
If the kids receive $200 or more in the government checks, then you wouldn't be paying support.
(However, if the checks are more than what you owe in support, you're not going to get a refund on the overage.)
If the child support is $200 and they receive only $100 via the checks, then you would still owe $100.
However, you must ASK for this dollar-for-dollar credit. Someone out there in the ether is not going to take care of this for you.
If this is not the way it is being handled, then you need to get back into court for a modification of support to make sure you are getting the proper credit for the government checks that the kids receive.
Best of luck to you!
